Kardinal Mobile Equine Veterinary Services, PLLC was established by Dr. Sarah M. Khatibzadeh in 2024. Dr. Khatibzadeh (“Dr. K.”) is a board-certified equine surgeon with a wide breadth and depth of experience in equine practice. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. She received the Novartis Student Award for Excellence in Surgical Skills in her clinical year. After graduation, Dr. Khatibzadeh completed rigorous equine internships in private practice in New York and at the Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Virginia. She then completed a Large Animal Surgery residency at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, achieving board certification (Diplomate-American College of Veterinary Surgeons) in 2020. During her residency, she earned a Master of Science degree studying a laboratory model of equine tendon healing. She continued at Virginia Tech to complete a PhD investigating the potential of equine bone marrow stem cells to combat orthopedic biofilm infections. While pursuing her PhD, Dr. Khatibzadeh worked as an after-hours emergency surgeon. She performed a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries on equine and farm animal patients. Dr. Khatibzadeh enjoys applying her surgical skills to healing challenging cases, mentoring veterinary students and residents, and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine. After giving birth to a beautiful baby girl, Dr. Khatibzadeh and her family relocated to North Carolina in 2024.

Dr. Khatibzadeh is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the international association for veterinary orthopedic surgery (AO VET), and the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA). She has published peer-reviewed papers and book chapters pertaining to equine surgery and medicine. When not caring for her patients, Dr. Khatibzadeh enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, family, friends, and pets. Her hobbies include riding her horse, playing the piano, cooking, swimming, drawing, crafting, hiking, and target shooting.
